It was curious just how quickly they 'turned off' as soon as the song was over and they returned to the normal world. Of course this is at the same time that the camera pans away from the boundless natural vista dwindling into distant mystery back to the simple realities of home and life.
Though I find it works better without the subtitles. I can't bring myself to watch the rest of the movie because it can't possibly be as good as that opening.
According to IMDB it is Orson Welles' birthday today. Weird.

He's actually not an old man, he's younger than us. And the smoking kid's comic timing is fantastic.
